Teotihuacán in Mexico City
I'm not going to lie. Not every trip I take is solely dedicated to immersing myself in another culture and learning as much as I can about that place. Sometimes it's just for fun. Recently, I took a trip to Mexico City and had so much fun. I spent most of the time just enjoying the time with my friends. I still want to write about it though because I enjoyed the trip a lot and I feel like it's worth sharing.
We took a late night bus from Puebla to Mexico City and arrived around 3 in the morning. We slept in super late but decided to head to Teotihuacan for the day.
We started off the day with some yummy candy treats on the street. We first tried something very similar to a lollipop. It has different flavors starting with the flavor of chili and then gradually getting sweeter.
Next, we took an Uber to the north bus station. We were so excited.

We didn't arrive at Teotihuacán until around 2 but it gave us more than enough time to hike all over and see the top of both pyramids.
In the beginning, there's a portion that you can crawl through. Both my friend and I did it. It was fun but it's probably something that I only need to do once. The rocks killed my knees!
After crawling through the tunnel, we explored some of the other remains.
We had a lot of fun pretending to sacrifice each other.
The name Teotihuacan was given by the ancient Aztecs centuries after the fall of the city around 550 AD. Its been called the "birthplace of the gods."
At its peak around 450 AD, it was a powerful center of culture. It's widely known for exporting obsidian artifacts and you'll see lots of merchants selling it today.
Teotihuacáns practiced human sacrifice. Human and animal bones have been found during excavations. The victims were almost always enemies of war.
Today, the two main pyramids are dedicated to the sun and the moon. The views from both are amazing but the views from the pyramid of the moon are definitely better.

After all that climbing, we did some shopping and stopped for snacks. I got a gordita, one of my favorite Mexican snacks.
It took us another hour on the bus to get back to our hotel, we took another rest before heading back out for tacos and beer.
We had a great night out in Mexico. I drank margaritas like the gringa that I am and embarrassed myself on the dance floor.
I absolutely adore Mexico City. It's only 2 hours away from my apartment in Puebla so I will definitely be back.
